Can a pulmonary embolism can be caused by a lack of exercise? What are the chances of another P.E. occurring?

PE can be caused by a lack of exercise or sedentary lifestyle. It can affect any age... don't u remember the TV anchor David Blum who died from DVT which is in the same... PE family?

I snipped this cause the numbers blew me away when I tried to get u more detail info...

"More than 600,000 people in the United States have a pulmonary embolism each year, and more than 60,000 of them die. Most of those who die do so within 30 to 60 minutes after symptoms start. Pulmonary embolism is one of the most common causes of death in hospitalized people who must remain in bed for a long time."

The below site is excellant info

pe can occur w/ a lack of movement. if sitting for long periods of time ie plane trips/long road trips or a sedentary lifestyle

YES.....IT DEPENDS ON YOUR MOBILITY AND IF YOU HAVE ANY BLOOD CLOTTING DISORDER

NO, A PULMONARY EMBOLISM CAN NOT BE CAUSED BY LACK OF EXERCISE. A CHANCE OF ANOTHER REOCCURRING DEPENDS ON YOUR MEDICAL BACKGROUND AND IF YOU ARE ON COUMADIN (WARFARIN)

P.E. is caused from a clot formed in another part of the body being thrown to the lung. You are at a higher risk of having another if you don't correct the cause of the first clot that was thrown. You should be on an anticoagulant to prevent anymore clots from forming, therefore preventing more P.E's

Pulmonary embolism is a circulatory/ blood clotting problem. If you are prone to blood clots you need to take medication and develop habits that keep your blood circulating. Sitting too long in a car, a plane, or your favorite chair can be a problem. Wearing anti-embolism stockings might be recommended. And never underestimate how much good a walk can do. Try water walking or mall walking also. Exercise does not have to be extreme to be beneficial. As for the chances of a recurrence - it depends on what led to the first occurrence.

PE is not caused by lack of exercise . It usally follows after prolonged im-mobilty as travelling long distance flights , im-mobilty on bed after major surgeries. After Fractures , a fat emboli can cause PE ( Fat Emoli ). Even lots of ammount of AIR entering circulation via iv route ( Air embolism). If these conditions prevale the person is more likely to get other PE

yes it can -- but usually it happens on people who don't move around at all. let's say you are in a 18-hour flight to another country, or a person has been bed-ridden for weeks. but if you get up once in a while and walk around (to school or work) i don't think you should worry about it.

you see pulmonary embolism usually starts off with a condition called deep venous thrombosis -- it is wherein a person that hasn't been moving a lot -- the blood clots in the veins, and then it travels through the blood, and the lungs -- but since the blood vessels in the lungs are tinier than usual, they get stuck in there and will cause breathing problems.

if you are let's say planning on a trip to a far place or bed ridden because of an illness, try walking around once in a while. but you don't have to worry about lack of exercise, although if you incorporate an exercise regimen, the better. see your doctor first before beginning a new exercise program. so i guess, the lack of exercise doesn't cause it, but with exercise -- it helps prevent it.
good luck
