Is Pulmonary Embolism curable with correct treatment. Does a person 38 yrs who is Alcholic and sedentary? |
benefit from treatment regime for such illness? Im a nurse and a PE is a blood clot in the lungs. Yes it is treatable with Clexane and warfarin. It is advisable to not drink alcohol as it reacts with the drugs. The majority of PE's are caused by blood pooling in the chest or in the calf (DVT) which is sometimes caused by the person being immobile or just lazy, staying in bed, not taking exercise. This is not always the case and dont want to offend anyone. Usually sick people who can not walk or have been advised not to walk will get them. I suffered a PE 3 years ago, and was treated with very strong anti-biotics and other drugs, before going on a course of Warfarine. This lasted about 6 months until my blood returned to normal. I was a big drinker at the time and was advised to cut down. But I wasn't told to cut down just because of my PE as this only effected the blood a small amount. I hate to sound obvious but the alcohol will obviously have a dramatic effect on the outcome. Blood thinners are used as treatment and preventative measures in this condition and the blood thinners have serious contra indications. Those surely include alcohol. my mum had pe years ago. she underwent a huge course of drugs for about 5 months. she was advised to not drink again even though she was not a heavy drinker anyway. she did get better however her heart was weakened and she did not listen to her specialists on eating and exercise regimes and eventully died from a cardiac arrest. so long as you listen to the dr and undergo the correct treatment you can fully recover from pe |
