Diagnosed with psychotic disorder?

so i just found out that i have Psychotic Disorder NOS along with my Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

well i think they're crazy diagnosing me as psychotic.

so maybe i hallucinate at night time and my moms schizophrenic. but i always thought it was because of my severe anxiety. well thats what i was always told.

it just feels so horrible to be known as a psycho. i dont feel that way at all. its so embarassing too, like..im not going to tell anyone i know.

am i misdiagnosed or what?!

Psychotic Disorder NOS is a vague, wastebasket category for when the psychiatrist is too lazy or doesn't have enough information to make an accurate diagnosis. People who have one parent with schizophrenia only have about a 10% chance of developing the illness. You say you hallucinate at night. Does this only occur around the time when you're falling asleep? If so, these could be hypnagogic hallucinations and are considered normal. People with psychosis have hallucinations at different times, often throughout the day. Also, psychotic people usually have poor insight and are truly convinced of the reality of their delusions and hallucinations. Anxiety Disorders (with the exception of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) do not cause hallucinations. I would definitely get a second opinion.

None of us knows the answer to that. We dont know you.

I wish you the best, take meds and feel better about things. Just dont tell people.

So why are you advertising your psychoness on here?
Follow your doctors orders and take your pills. Maybe you will feel better in a few weeks.

the NOS part means they can't really categorize what you have or why, but you have psychotic symptoms NOW, so they need a label in order to justify prescribing medication that may help your symptoms go away. i hate labels in mental health, but they need to give people a label to try to get them better. unfortunate. and often the label does not apply. so don't worry about what they call you, and it is YOUR business, so no one needs to think of you as anything other than just you. just concentrate on not drinking or doing drugs and take what meds they prescribe and get better. that is all that matters really.

If your not happy with your diagnoses, get a second opinion. As far as your telling other people, it's really none of their business unless it is someone who may have to deal with any of your symptoms.

Chin up, you will be fine. Take care of your health and be happy.

get a second opinion and be honest about all your symptoms....

then you will find out if you are psychotic or not.......

being psychotic doesn't mean you are "pscyho" it just means you have a thought disorder.....

IF you are hallucinating, it sounds like the beginnings of skitzophrenia. I am bipolar and have anxiety disorder. I am consider a PSYCHO!! Dont feel bad! You are not alone!! TAKE YOUR MEDS!!! I cant stress that enough!! If you dont.... it'll only get worse the older you get!!
