Psychotic Episode? |
Has anyone had a depressive psychotic episode, or witnessed someone during a psychotic depressive episode? (not an episode relating to schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders, but specifically a psychotic depressive episode.) If so, can you explain to me what exactly happened? What was said/thought and how were you treated? Did you ever talk in sentences that were jumbled or use word choices that did not make sense? I've never had a psychotic episode, but know a bit about them. The most common symptoms of psychosis would be auditory hallucinations. People will hear things that aren't there...whispers, people calling their name, or commenting on them, or others. People with a psychotic depression have "mood congruent" psychosis. That basically means that their psychosis usually is something that's...well...depressing. Many times they will hear the voice of Satan telling them they are unclean or angels telling them they are going to hell. A lot of patients will say they hear voices tell them to kill themselves. I had one patient tell me that he WAS satan, but really didn't know why that was. I went through a Psycotic episode a few years ago. I was diagnoased with severe depression. And when I was really depressed I would get Psycotic and paranoid. I don't have schizophrenia just a psychotic depressive episode like you said. I've actually gone through quite a few myself. I have bipolar disorder, so the episodes I had was due to excessive depression or mania. My last episode was a few months ago. I saw a centipede in my room so I didn't sleep for 5 days straight, I even went so far as to want to kill myself because there were bugs in my house. I hallucinated (before the incident, actually, so it wasn't just because I saw a bug), by hearing music, faint voices, seeing things out of the corner of my eye, etc. I didn't leave a certain room of my house, and the only time I actually left that room was to use the bathroom. I shivered, had tremors, didn't eat, and didn't even feel human anymore. It was pretty bad. It didn't actually stop until I used pesticides in my house. I didn't go to the doctor about it because I didn't feel like anything was wrong with me. After the fact though, it was just a strange experience and I know I should have gone to the doctor. |
