Physical Therapy...help!?

Hi there, I was just diagnosed with some kind of disorder to the spinal cord nerve endings, I'm not sure of exactly the name but this is what I've gathered from the doctor.
It involves S1 S2 S3 S4 nerve endings.
It is the nerve endings of the spinal cord, where they branch out.
The doctor said it was called something like (sounding it out, cant spell it) "Cortay Kwayenay"
Something to do with the way a horses tale branches out.
So I'm going to need physical therapy for that...what should I expect? They also have me on 60mg of Prednisone a day all at once.....is that alright?
So my main questions would be....
How do you pronounce this syndrome?
How long could I expect PT for and what would it involve?
I've heard nasty things about Prednisone....I am taking 6 tablets a day......180 tablets so I'd be on it for a month. Should I look out for anything?
Thank you all in advance.

the "horses tail" is called cauda equina.
talk with your parents if you have any concerns.

what to expect from PT, a general discription of physical therapy (PT) there are several types of physical therapy
they have manual therapy where they adjust you (kinda like a chiropractor) and give you exercise to stay in line. if its not manual therapy they may use modalities such as ultra sound, electrical stimulation, hot packs or cold packs....all of them very pleasant (they work mainly for pain control. they also have traction which would help to stretch the vertebra out and open more space between (this is my least favorite of the modalities, but i know people who love it) . there are several others things that they can do
the general principal of PT is stretch whats tight and strengthen what is weak...and to help control pain
as for how long you will be in PT...well that has several factors..number one being how long your insurance will cover, then the physical therapist must show skilled therapy and progress, until you meet all your goals..could be as little as 1-2 visits or as many as 6 months worth....
as far as the prednisone well look it up on web md,

hope some of this helps, again this is just general information about physical therapy. talk to your parents and/or your doctor if you have any concerns about PT or the prednisone...and remember that physical therapy is there to help you and (most) physical therapist are there because they love to help people.
