Physical Therapy Troubles?

I had surgery 2 weeks ago exactly..

I had physical therapy for the first time wednesday and have it tomorrow.

She seemed a little aggravated that i couldnt bend it more than i could. (30 degrees)

Im scared shes going to get one of those attitudes like (if you dont bend it, i will)

What should i do?

It was a knee surgery

Keep in mind that your therapist has your best interest in mind (I hope). As a therapist I care that my patients will be able to regain their function and return to the things they like to do...and hopefully avoid having a manipulation. (Procedure where they give you a light sedative and the surgeon takes the knee and bends it really hard to break the scar tissue).

You did not say what type of knee surgery your had, but if you've been IMMOBILIZED for the past two weeks, I would say that being able to bend it only 30 degrees may be normal, but it should increase. If you have been allowed to bend it over the past two weeks and you've ONLY got 30 degrees, you may very well be on your way to developing adhesive scar tissue in the joint. Your progress will need to be monitored carefully. If you've had a simple scope, or even if you've had total knee replacement, you should be bending in much further than this by now.

It would also be helpful to know if there are any restrictions the surgeon has given you...for instance, if he only wants you bending it to a certain degree, then the therapist should be made aware of this (if she isn't already).

Yet, the therapist should always make the best efforts to put the patient's mind at ease...if you are too scared to come back, then we have not done our job properly.

Hang in there...good luck!

do not let them push you as i have suffered trauma and they did this to me and caused me to have another surgery

PTs have many patients that will aggravate them, AKA old people, slow people, dumb people. If your appointment late in the day then they might be crabby. But if not they might just be a bad PT and you should ask for a different one. No good PT will make you bend, they will help you. If your scared, tell her you should not be afraid of your PT. Good Luck let me know how it works out.

You didn't say what the surgery was for,
Physiotherapist are hated in hospitals because they are the ones who are responsible to get you moving breathing and and rejoining your old life style.
SO dont hate her just do what she asks you to do and if you cant do it then tell her.

i am currently in physical therapy for a knee surgery that i had back in mid march.... the first couple weeks really suck....(thank god i am done with p.t. july 31st) they are going to have to make you bend as much as you can and when you can bend anymore they have to force it to go a little further... it hurts like a b**** but it has to be done.... before you know it... the hard stuff like that will be over and you will be able to bend all the way by yourself and not have thise jerks push it lol... but my therapist was hot so it didnt matter as much!!!! lol good luck!!!!

You havent mentioned what the physical therapy was for? I think you must have suffered a fracture. But where and which part is injured?
Usually for fractures, physical therapy starts only after the fracture has healed completely and I am not sure if 2 weeks are really enough to start it.
Dont push the PT exercises. Do it slow and deliberately. Physical therapy is meant to give freedom to mobility of arms and feet.
If your therapist is a pushy type, change the therapist. She needs to be gentle with you.
