Best ways to stop nose bleeding?

I just had a nosebleed for like an hour. I used to get them all the time, this is the first one i had in a long time though. one of my doctors told me i have a lack of phosphorus in my system, but yet i think its because i fell off the bleachers and landed on my nose when i was in high school.

Anyways some say to hold the bridge of the nose, or pinch the soft part. I usually hold the soft part, the bridge of my nose hurts otherwise, and look up or down? I look down because i dont want the blood to run down my throat. That would make me vomit. Soooo.... any sugestions? ----thanks!

yes i do eat fish, but does that cause nosebleedS?

as a child I got nose bleeds all the time and saw many dr's to find the root of my issue - to stop a nose bleed you want to lightly pinch the bridge of your nose (always keeping a tissue handy for leakage) for 20 minutes - any nose bleed that lasts longer than 20 minutes you want to consult a doctor about - less than that, there's nothing to worry about. To prevent them (while this doesnt sound apealing, it WORKS) in the mornigns when you get out of the shower you want to put a small amount of vasaline (or similar product) on a qtip or finger and cover the inside walls of your nose, this forms a protective barrier over the blood vessels in the nose, as well as keeping moisture in to prevent cracks and nose bleeds.

You have tried the ones I know of - go to the ER if nothing works. I did find this though :o) feel better. If your one dr gave you some random answer - get a second opinion from an ENT (Ear Nose Throat doctor) also called a otolaryngologist - spelled that wrong I am sure but see one of them.

Nosebleeds can be a sign of something else - another bigger problem. They would not keep coming back from a fall off the bleachers unless there was some reason a cut didn't heal up, etc. It can be a Vitamin K deficiency so you may want to ask a dr if you should take a supplement or look for a multi that has Vitamin K. You can also get this vitamin from leafy green veggies but I read that foods that are high in salicylates (aspirin like substances, fruit and fruit juices) can block vitamin K.

How to Stop Nosebleed:
1. Sit with your head leaning forward.
2. Pinch the nostrils shut, using your thumb and forefinger in such a way that the nasal septum (the
nose's midsection) is being gently squeezed.
3. Hold for 15 uninterrupted minutes, breathing through your mouth.
4. At the same time, apply cold compresses (such as ice in a soft cloth) to the area around the nose.
5. For the next 24 hours, make sure your head is elevated above the level of your heart.
6. Also, wait 24 hours before blowing your nose, lifting heavy objects, or exercising strenuously

put ice cube on your nose

Eat a popsicle or ice cream....don't know why...but it helps

stop pickin it ha ha

Pinch your nostriles at the bottom. Keep your head level and allow for clotting....

put a piece of toilet paper up you nose , but also go to the doctor ,

hold a tissue over your nose while leaning your head back.

also check out webmd.com

you are right pinch nose and put head down

look down while holding a piece of ice or something cold (frozen pees) while applying a little pressure to the bridge, dont hold your head back bcuz the blood will go to your stomach and cause upset

Do you take aspirin or tylenol or vitamin E tablets or eat lots of fish?

To take care of a nosebleed:

Sit upright. By remaining upright, you reduce blood pressure in the veins of your nose. This discourages further bleeding.
Pinch your nose. Use your thumb and index finger and breathe through your mouth. Continue the pinch for five to 10 minutes. This maneuver sends pressure to the bleeding point on the nasal septum and often stops the flow of blood.
To prevent rebleeding after bleeding has stopped, don't pick or blow your nose and don't bend down until several hours after the bleeding episode. Keep your head higher than the level of your heart.
If rebleeding occurs, sniff in forcefully to clear your nose of blood clots, spray both sides of your nose with a decongestant nasal spray containing oxymetazoline (Afrin, Dristan, others). Pinch your nose again in the technique described above and call your doctor.
Seek medical care immediately if:

The bleeding lasts for more than 20 minutes
The nosebleed follows an accident, a fall or an injury to your head, including a punch in the face that may have broken your nose

tilt head back just a bit so it doesn't run down ur throat and press just underneath the nose with pressure that usually works for me gl

put a cube of ice under ur head and one on ur nose.

Plug with a small cotton wool first. Next get the bleeding point cauterised. Any G.P. can do it.

you need to get cauterized! go to the doctors and they will use a lazer and close all the little veins or tissue that is causing your nosebleeds...my brother and friend had this done. 3 times. and it finally stopped! they got them just about everyday. not anymore.

oh and you dont want to lean your head back like some might suggest! because its not good, the blood leaks backwards and you dont want that it causes some kinda problems...

You are very correct in saying do not bend your head back!! I see too many people doing that, and later they end up throwing up and coughing up blood all over me and my ambulance.

If holding your nose is doing nothing but hurting, then stop. Try plugging your nose, but make sure that you aren't going to strangle yourself.

Try standing up when you get one. More blood will flow down your legs instead of your head.

Oh come on, stop picking your nose. It's that simple. ;)

Lean over the sink and put a very cold washcloth on the back of your neck while pinching the bridge of your nose.

Or you can put a piece of wet paper towel above your two front teeth and hold it there until the bleeding stops.

I'd actually go to an ear/nose/throat specialist and have them check for capillaries near the surface. That happened to me, and they cauterized it, and no more bloody noses. Also, it helps to run a cool mist humidifier at night and use a nose rinse in the morning and night-drink lots of water and keep your moist tissues hydrated.

Best to you.

When my husband had deviated septum surgery, his nose bled after and Doc said get neo-syneferin nose spray. It stopped the bleeding!!

Hold your head only slightly back. Pinch the nose firmly but gently. Pack it with tissue or cotton to absorb the blood. If the plug gets saturated, remove it and pinch the nose more and ease off once in a while and breath evenly and slowly. This may allow the air to clot the blood. If it continues to bleed, then repack the nose, but very gently and pinch.

you can try the old pinch your nose routine if it doesnt stop in 3-5 min tild hear back slightly another thing you can do besides trying vitamin k shots is free find a clean brown paper bag like a grocery or lunch bag tear off a strip about the size of your finger then put it in your mout get it wet with saliva then twist it so it will fit snugly up your nose leave it there 30 min the mixture of the chemicals used to process the bag reacts with the saliva to stop most nosebleeds unless it is caused by extreme high blood pressure in that event get to hospital and the have a extra large q tip that is soaked in a chemical that can cauterize the vein inside with out any pain been there best wishes Gorbalizer

first of all just relax, its not hurting youll be fine, secondly dont tip your head back, blood will go down your throat and thats just nasty! get a wad of papertowl or toilet paper and hold it at the bottom of your nose--dont blow you nose--hold the papwer towel there for 10 min put some pressure around the top of your nose, it may be tempting but dont look fro 10 min! if it just keeps going after 50 min. go see a doctor

before answering to it you need to test for clothing time of your blood and test is there any hypertension causing this or not. better go to doctor and have a complete checkup esspecially of clothing factors and your B.P. for further question you might give your age for the better advise medically.
do take your food habits do have impact on disease. according to ayurveda it is said that fish eating do cause increase your contion. avoid over salt and pungent tastes. better take sweat and cold diets.

Niose bleeds are caused by damage to the blood vessels which in your nose are generally very small.
Braking your nose years ago will have no effect to day; however some people are prone to them.

If you are bleeding heavy and/or for long; like 2 hours; feel dizzy slightly or anything; seek medical attension to aviod blood volume depletion.
Otherwise, hold you fingers on the bridge of your nose until it stops. Do not sniff violently and poke anything up there as the vessels will rupture again.

*Do not inject anything into you, like someone says, you may contract infection from dirty needles or get the dose wrong. Such mistakes kill.

Pinch the nostrils together and lean forward slightly. You can also put an ice cube at the top of the bridge of the nose between the eyes. After about 10-15 mins, check and see if the bleeding has stopped. If it has not, go to the ER. If it has, dont blow your nose of suck air in hard thru it.

Uncontrolled nose bleed could be a sign of high blood pressure. The majority of nose bleeds are easy to control with the pinching and the ice. Again, if it dont stop, go to the ER.
