Does anyone have any phobias.....? |
What does it feel like to have a phobia...just tell me about them? I suffer from astraphobia-fear of thunderstorms. For me it starts out with butterflies in my stomach as the storm approaches. Then my heart will race, my hands will sweat, my ears will ring, my lips go numb (almost as if you are about to pass out). My breathing gets faster and I start to get dizzy. From there it goes into a full blown panic attack. I jump at each flash of lightning and tremble with each rumble of thunder. Often times I will just sit in my hallway and cry (not a pretty sight for a 31 year old). As the storm dissipates, I start to calm down, and return to a more normal state, however because of all the tension I usually end up with a splitting headache. Storms during the day don't bother me quite as much as the ones at night, however if I am alone, even in the afternoon, I can be a real basket case. My family and friends think it is funny, however it is a very real fear for me and can be compared to a claustrophobic in a crowded elevators stuck between floors during a power outage. That's about as graphic as I can get. SPIDERS and the fear of cliff edges You just start to panic, even though you can tell yourself that there's really nothing wrong. i don't have any...i would also like 2 kno what it is like i have a phobia of spiders. it's sorta like when someone jumps out at you and it scares you bad. only it last much longer when you see them. some have worse phobias then others I hate water that I cant see the bottem of. I'm afraid that one of my personalities is going to take control of my brain and do crazy things like repaint the house hot pink or rearange my cd's in an awkward fashon... that would be aweful... I have a phobia of fire, and of being involved in a car accident. It starts off with my breath catching, then my heart pounding so hard I feel like I can hear it. i tell myself everything is fine, I am "just" panicking, but it doesnt matter, my body gets a huge adrenaline rush from the fear, and then I start to be afraid I may have a heart attack, my chest hurts so badly and I am so hot....I tend to hold my breath by accident and just try to calm down....its a horrible feeling. |
