How is Phlebitis caused?

Thought it was caused by spider bites. Could be wrong tho, just ringing a bell for some reason

The risk of DVT and PE is greater in people:

over 40 years of age,
who have had blood clots already,
with a family history of blood clots,
suffering from, or who have had treatment for, cancer,
with certain blood diseases,
being treated for heart failure and circulation problems,
who have had recent surgery especially on the hips or knees, or
who have an inherited clotting tendency.

There is some evidence that long-haul flights, especially when passengers have little or no exercise, may increase the risk of developing DVT. Experts suggest that the proportion of people who develop DVT because of air travel is small, but the information is limited. It is not easy to decide whether the flight itself caused the DVT or whether people were at risk for other reasons.

While it is difficult to be certain what the exact causes of travel-related DVT are, experts agree that lack of exercise or immobility are major underlying risks. They have also identified that people at increased risk of DVT/PE in general are those more likely to develop travel-related DVT/PE.

my Husband has this and it was caused , when he was in the Army they ran on cobble stone roads in Germany . I guess there are other reasons But that is how my Husband got this. It helps to wear compression socks.

It can be brought on by some drugs like Celebrex.

Citrus fruits are rich in Vitamin C and bioflavonoids which are very helpful in building blood vessel walls.

Phlebitis-Inflammation of the walls of the veins, is a very common condition, especially in the lower limbs often leading to thrombophlebitis. It may be primary, simple, non-inflammatory process (phlebothrombosis) or a secondary reaction to local or distant inflammatory agents with active inflammation of the wall of the affected vein (thrombophlebitis).

Phlebitis or Deep Vein Thrombosis can be caused by many things. It can result in a falling accident causing a blood clot in the leg, or it can be caused by women who take birth control pills and smoke. Phlebitis is most common in the legs, in a deep vein. The pain is so severe to walk or sit or lay down. The skin may be hard and hot or warm to the touch. If you have this you must see your doctor immediately or go to the Emergency Room. Treatments vary. When I had it back in 1984, I was hospitalized for 3 weeks and was placed on two blood thinners. But nowadays things may be done differently. I hope I was of some help to you. Good luck!

blockage of a vein by blood clot accompanied by inflammation.

phlebitis can also result after an iv. i've had it several times after having an iv on the inside of my forearm. it's very painful, i couldn't even bend my elbow.

Think it can be cause from poor circulation due to hypertension and diabetes.

Basically it means a clot in the vein. As the venous system is divided in deep veins and superficial veins one can have clot in each of the systems. Only very rarely clotting can occur in both of the systems in the same time. The main cause for the condition are varicose veins
