I had a hand IV last Saturday, one week ago. My wrist is still tender to the touch - is this normal? |
I can sort of trace the vein up my arm a bit and its quite sore, I was already told that I had a clot midway up my arm from this, (they said it was superficial phlebitis) so is this vein tenderness normal? Yes it is pretty normal. Alot of meds that go through the IV are very irritating to the vascular system. I personally never start an IV in the hand of any of my patients. Try alternating hot and cold packs every couple of hours and taking something like ibuprophen or alieve to reduce the swelling. I have a permanantly scarred vein from getting steriods and anitbiotics through my IV. Yes, I do the same thing - it usually takes about 7-10 days for the bruising to go away after I have a shot, blood drawn, or IV That's normal. I just got out of the hospital a week ago and my IV site is still sore. Yes. |
