I had day surgery on thursday. Since then I have had pain in the arm they inserted an intravenous catheter into. This pain got worse yesterday, so I went to see a nurse at an NHS Walk-In centre as it was weekend. She said I had cellulitis, and gave me Flucloxacillin 500mg 4 times a day for 5 days. She noted a red line from the inside of my elbow half way up my upper arm. She said it was the infection running along the blood line. Today, the pain seems worse, and this red line now runs from around my wrist to mid way up my upper arm.
I have been advised this could be phlebitis in another thread of Yahoo Answers. This red line fades under pressure, and the pain is mainly along this line. Should I seek medical help? If not - when should I? What could this be?
I do not have any other symptoms at the moment. Yes, see someone immediately. I have had a number of IV sites and several central lines. If there is any soreness, the site is changed immediately and antibiotics are started. You may need something stronger. Don't wait. Good luck. see your doctor NOW an infection after anykind of surgery is not to be messed with. Do not wait go NOW |
