Why won't doctor's check for pertussis readily?

By twos and threes all nine of my vaccinated children came down with horrible wracking coughs. We began to call it the never-ending cough. I suggested to my doctor that it may be pertussis when my three year old starting whooping. Even then, she did not want to test for it. She just said that she would treat it as though it were. Unknowingly, we have exposed others. My nephew got it from staying with us. My 3 week old grand daughter is hospitalized with it (finally confirmed by someone!) My daughter's friend who has stayed with us several times has every symptom and keeps coughing until she vomits. She has seen her doctor 3 times, and he refuses to test her for pertusis, even though we now have a confirmed case in our family. In the meantime, she is exposing others in her community. Is there a lot of paperwork or what? Why won't doctors test readily for it?

Oops, I meant doctors, not doctor's.

It's hard to say why they wont run tests for it....but you can go from doctor to doctor till you get the right help. I am sorry you are all going through this, I hope you find someone willing to take this seriously.
