Where is Pertussis (whooping cough) in nature? |
How does Pertussis exist? Where is it in nature? Aside from how it spreads from person to person, how does it first infect one to be spread? Pertussis is a bacteria spread by coughing. Small children can be reservoirs of this germ. I had visitors with two small kids who were mildly ill and they were crawling all over me. Within 10 days I came down with the initial illness that precedes full blown whooping cough. The initial illness feels much like the flu except you keep getting worse instead of improving. Despite lots of antibiotics I was very ill for two weeks and then the coughing started. I coughed with the characteristic whooping attacks for another 60 days and at times thought I'd never catch my breath. Surprisingly, laughing was one of the worst triggers for starting the whooping. Whooping cough in adults can really suck. Also dangerous for infants and immune compromised. |
