Does this sound like a personality disorder? Which one?

I'm confused as to what these symptoms would be classified as:

A person who hates being around people because he feels unsatisfied and unhappy with most social interactions, but is also desperately lonely and craves a person/people that can make them happy.

Also has poor social skills, eccentricity, and substance abuse tendencies.

And is very picky in relationships; only wants to be with someone he's physically attracted to. If there's no physical attraction, refuses more than just a friendship. Desperately wants a girlfriend though. Is very frustrated with his own limitations and shallowness, but doesn't know how to change.

I'm curious about this person I know; also interested because I can sort of relate to some of his tendencies myself.
I'm confused by that set of symptoms; it sounds to me like a blend of different personality disorders; some of the tendencies resemble Asperger's as well. What disorder do those symptoms sound like?

This comes out of the persons reactive mind and it can as so many people before handle by erasing the reactive mind. Then that's the cause of this .

Anti-social. Can start relationships, but can't maintain them. Doesn't like being around other people, regardless of social setting.

you know, i'm just morely like him... i wanna ask the same question as yours, too...
if you got an answer to your question, pls tell me too.. pls.. i really need your help...

just send it to

Wanting to be alone because he is unsatisfied or unhappy with social interactions, but is also lonely? Sounds like he just isn't around the right people. It's not necessarily a personality disorder. Some people who are very intelligent feel this way because it's hard to relate to people who are significantly less intelligent. I often feel like this, I'm supposed to be 'gifted', but I'm not, but the average person? No. I can't do it. It is lonely.

Physical attraction? Well, why the hell not? I'm the same way. I think a lot of people are. He's not desperate enough to lower his standards and I beleive physical attraction is very important. Yes, what's on the inside definitely matters, but sexuality is important in the begin. Later as love, comfort and commitment develop things change, but no one wants to be in a romantic relationship with a swamp beast at first. We all need those sexy memories after so many years of marriage! Haha. It's a reality not a disorder.

Really, he sounds like a normal guy. He may be a little more intelligent, creative or somehow set apart from the average person which causes him greif in finding friendships and that great romantic interest, but a disorder on this alone? I doubt it very much.

Personality disorders have certain traits that show up in the 'normal' or psychologically 'healthy' population. Many people can relate to many different personality disorders, but it's the severity, impact and the combination that matters most.

Not everything unpleasant is mental illness.
