Home peritoneal dialysis vs center hemodialysis: which is safer?

Home peritoneal dialysis vs center hemodialysis: which is safer?

If you get proper training and use aseptic technique, peritoneal dialysis is possible at home. Handwashing is important! Ask the community nurses or the nurses at the center which they'd recommend.

I've been on both. For every person it is different! If you are an elderly diabetic with poor eye sight then Hemo inclinic will be better. But if you don't have any of that & have energy to be active & want to be free from HD, I would say try for Peritoneal Dialysis! Report It

Of course infection is a risk, but it is a risk with both Hemo and Peritoneal! Don't let people tell you it doesn't happen with Hemo even in clinic! Some infections happen no matter what precautions you take! I have been on dialysis off and on since 1990! Report It

you make peritoneal as safe as you want it check the lifespan of patients in the center Report It

center is safer as the chances of infections are lesser
