I think I have Peripheral vascular disease.?

Everytime I stand up I have numbness in my feet. Is this a premature sign of diabetes? Can I reverse this?

Rest easy. Pain from PVD is EXERTIONAL. That means a leg hurts after a relatively consistent amount of walking. For example, every time you walk from your door to the street.

If this continues to bother you, see your doctor.

Well first if you are concerned about diabetes, go on a 12 hr. fast and have your blood sugar tested at your doctors. Next no there is no premature signs, the neurological and vascular problems associated with diabetes is with someone who has had the disease for a long period of time. Your problem may be neurological in nature not vascular, and it may be from your low back since it sounds like it is coupled with standing up. First thing I would do is get a physical along with blood work, remember you need a 12 hr. fast for blood sugar and blood lipids.

I have peripheral vascular disease and also neuropathy. Two different symptoms. My feet are numb from the neuropathy and the other causes pain in my legs after walking. Usually behind my knees. Get yourself tested by a specialist.

It may be a sign of diabetes, but other factors may be contributing to this problem.
Plaque build-up in your ateries and veins can block blood-flow causing discomfort from lack of oxygen.
Get tested for diabetes at your doctors office.
This is usually a simple blood test.
He or she may order a doppler study of your feet/legs which shows how good the circulation is in that area.
This is simply a scan that is non-invasive, no discomfort,
and does not take much time.
They may inject you with a dye so that the blood flow shows up better on the scan.
Let them know if you have any allergies to shell fish or dyes.
You do not want to have an allergic reaction.
Hopefully, you will not have anything seriously wrong, but early detection of problems now can eliminate some big
problems later.
Good luck,
Joe
