I have Periodontal Disease what is the the most effective treatment? |
The Periodontal disease has been really getting me down and the dentist has not been very helpful. Does anyone know of over the counter treatments or will i need surgery? My gums have receeded quite a lot and i need something more effective than mouthwash. I have found Q10 supplement has really helped me, I wish I had heard this before I lost so many teeth, so much nonsense with 'we get enough in food' just is not true for the vast majority. WHY don't they tell us this stuff, profit for dentist's ? :- i don't know the extent of your disease, but there are things like deep cleaning, bone and gum grafts and such. You need to see Periodontist for the exam and consultation. You will need to see a hygienist I think. Why is your dentist not helpful?! I also have it (thanks to smoking for 30 years). I am scheduled for an appt. with the hygienist for her to measure the depth of the gum pockets. This forms and bacteria gets in and continues to fester below the gum line. I will then have scaling of the roots to get the old plaque removed. I am not sure what type of mouth rinses I will be given to get rid of the bacteria. As long as I floss and brush alot, my gums should get back to fairly normal. Alot of research has proven gum disease is linked to many forms of cardiovascular diseases, etc. so it is important to have it taken care of. Go to a different dentist! You need to go and see a periodontist. I went today and had the treatment which is to clean under the gums. it isnt painful but is costly. they will sort out your gums. They take xrays and tell you how bad it is and what treatment you need, you will also go to a hygienist. |
