Is 39 too young to start perimenopause (sorry about spelling)? I've been having hot flashes lately.?

In the last few weeks I seem to be having hot flashes and what appears to be night sweats. I will be 40 in July and I had my first period when I was 12. I still have my cycle but sometimes it's really heavy and I get cramps like I used to when I was in my teens. Ladies only, anyone else having or had symptoms like this? Please no smart comments, thanks!

Hey,

I just turned 41 and I started to have night sweats about a year ago, my periods changed too. WAY heavier and crampier than ever. I sopke to my Dr. He says that changes start slowly and will evolve into menopause, it's kinda like an appetizer I guess. Great. nothing really to worry about he said, but take calcium supplements, stay active and eat right......more great news...lol. Good luck, i think we're pretty normal.

No, menopause can start in the 20s, its rare but it happens;
Talk to your doctor about it, there are tests which can confirm or defute the diagnosis and treatments you could get;

I was told by my doc that the age you start peri-menopause can correlate to the age your mom was when she started. If you can, check with her. Also, there is a blood test that your doc can do to check your hormone levels. If they are dropping then you will know that is what it is. If that's not the case, then it will be worthwhile to find out what is going on. Never fear! If it is indeed peri-menopause it will all be just fine. :)

You sound like you are going through what I went through around that age. I had the heavy periods, hot flashes, irregular periods, etc. I did go through menopause early then. Around the age of 44. I am so embarrassed of this, but I guess others are having the same problem. I think that having a lot of stress contributed to it also.

I feel for ya, but there is hope.
yes you could easily be in peri- menapause
i was 39ish myself when I went through it .
No fun!!! Talk to your Doctor and check on internet for alternative herbs instead of hormones alot less side effects!
Mine started with stress.
woke up sweating so bad I'd change clothes 2 ,3 times a night. It smelled sour too, Took months to figure it out.
hot and cold flashes started, then I started asking Questions
For some reason ,I'd never heard anybody speak of the sweats with Menapause. But when I asked I found out it happens a lot.
Now on a lighter note Know it is not the end of the world and something as simple as Happiness can Fix alot.
let me tell you a true but odd story .
I was in a terrible marriage, ( not even kissing without alcohol for years) 2 pre-teen sons, working a man's job and burning my candles at both ends to only come up very stressed. taken 1/2 the anti-depression meds out there !
Hitting 40 my Doc told me , I needed to make some desperate changes in my life or she was going to commit me for my own good. she gave me Paxil for Depression, but recommended
Black cowash an herb for the sweats . Plus 6 months to get my life changes started.
well I went home told my family I needed help or else . for 6 months i dealt with the sweats, the the stress , the hot and cold flashes, mood swings and near insanity.
just to leave my home of 16 years.
In 2 months I'd stopped the Paxil stress was controlable
but all the other symptoms stopped almost Immediately after I made love to my new and very Special Mate. he woke something up!!LOL
I am not sure what hormone kicked in that had been dorment?
Went back to Doc told her what had happened .
We both got a big Laugh when I informed her , that when I started the sweats and stuff it was still called Pre- Menapause
by the time I'd left My X it was called Perimenapause !
( my X's name Is Perry!)
laughter is good Medicine so LOL alot!
But it worked !!!!LOL 3yrs in I'm almost 45 and just starting to get sweats at my monthly times.
cramps like a teenager still there,
moist heat helps me.
SORRY SO LONG BUT HOPE IT HELPS!!!
