Could vaginal dryness be a side effect of SSRI drugs?

I am in perimenopause and just started taking a really low dose of Paxil for depression. I know it dries out my mouth, but I am also experiencing some discomfort in that area as well? Could this be related to this medication? Any personal experience with this? My doctor said, "Maybe", but I would like to hear if anyone else had experienced this uncomfortable side effect?

Yes it could be. I was on lorazapam for a couple of years i had vaginal dryness. It went away right after i got off of it.

Paxil and many other SSRI medications do have sexual side effects. It's possible that you're feeling dry because of this effect. If you're having sex and you're not properly lubricated this will cause your vagina to be irritated. It would be a wise idea to invest in some good water based lubricant which you can use for sex and when ever you feel the need. Personally, I like the Durex brand lubes. You can get this at any store that sells condoms.

I used to have the same problem when I was on Paxil a few years back. I am currently on Wellbutrin, an antidepressant that does not have sexual side effects (I have actually heard that it causes the opposite!) and I have no lubrication issues. See if your doctor will let you switch.
