I have been diagnosed with perimenopause. I take Preminsil (sp?), primerose oil, flaxseed oil and vitamins to help with some symptoms and for general health. I walk and meditate and write in a journal. Generally this works for me but on occassion it doesn't help; this is one of those times.
I cannot seem to handle the simpliest of issues, problems, conflicts. My emotions completely take over. I can feel my heart racing and my brain gets foggy. I can't think clearly. Does anyone else have these kinds of symptoms and what do you do about them? I can relate to those very same symptoms. When issues come up no matter how small, I tend to feel inadequate to handle them right before my menstrual cycle. I will be 44yrs. old next month and believe that my body is settling into perimenopause as well and has been working toward this for years now. I am thankful my cycles are still very regular and have become lighter as I get older at least that is something that is predictable.
It sounds like you are doing all the right things to try to alleviate your symptoms. I also believe exercise is important, meditating ( or at least listening to your own thoughts and opinions) and journaling is really helpful too!
Very much like yourself, I take a good multi-vitamin/mineral supplement along with Omega 3-6-9 oils (fish, flax, primrose or borage oils). Over time the omega oils have helped to alleviate breast soreness and unexpectantly have helped to increase healthy vaginal lubrication....and to think I began taking it to help with improving my emotional state. Obviously, it has many wonderful benefits. I also take 5 HTP as a natural approach to help fight depression.
You may also want to consider having your hormone levels checked. You may need to supplement with progesterone which you can get from a compounding pharmacist. It comes in a cream form that is absorbed through the skin. Progesterone acts like a natural relaxant and may help alleviate your racing heart and brain fog and anxiety.
All in all, these things have helped to keep those hormonally induced negative voices in my head at bay to some extent. They really are hormonally induced and can overwhelm us at times through no fault of our own.
Last but not least, I hope you have someone in your life who can help talk you through the tough times. Someone you can lean on for unconditional emotional support. Someone to remind you that "this too shall pass and there are better days ahead." I know I need to hear that often.
What I'm trying to say is in my attempts to try to "fix" me, I have learned that there is no exact science to any of it. You just do your best to get through it day by day. Doesn't seem fair that we experience all of this, but a lot of us do so you are definately not alone. It's a chemical/hormonal imbalance that has the ability to control us. It just plain sucks at times!
Again, I wish you well! Best of luck! Just chanced upon this after it was answered. Cool answer! Took note. Report It
