Peptic ulcer, gerd, heartburn, hiatel hernia?

i have been diagnosed years ago with gerd, and then a few years back, hiatel hernia, now i have a peptic ulcer.... my heartburn comes and goes, but i dont' usually have burning in the chest, usually in the upper area, and throat and mouth... i told that to my doctor years ago, and i guess its normal...so can anyone tell me about all this? i know what the ulcer is, the ONLY thing that helps me get rid of heartburn is nexium? when i was diagnosed with it a week ago, the dr said i can have a mixture of meds...proton pump inhibitor, and antacids.... does anyone out there have any info about this and what meds work best? prilosec, or prevacid doesn't work for me.... they even told me to take double the strength meds if over the counter..... any advice?

you best bet is to keep taking nexium. not only does nexium get rid of the heart burn, but it helps stomach erosions. it actually works by stopping acid secretions. i don't know how bad your ulcer is but if your doctor hasn't sugested surgery to help the ulcers then he or she thinks that nexium has a good shot.

I highly recommend a wonderful book on this subject by Sherry Rogers, M.D. called: "No More Heartburn". She will teach you about the underlying causes of your problem and how to treat those causes. This is a very important concept because treating your symptoms with acid inhibitors will virtually guarantee additional health problems down the road.
