I have a Peptic Ulcer?

what are some ways I can relieve it? It has been bothering me most of the day.

Sorry for your discomfort. Over the counter wise, try some Zantac along with some Tylenol inaccordance with your correct dosage. You may take 2 Zantac (reg. strength) at one dosage if discomfort is severe enough. No more than 4 ina 24 hr. period. Watch your spicy items that you eat and even milk(causes stomach to produce more acid).Do not eat & then go right to bed---bad habit!
If symptoms persist after 2 weeks consult your physician.
Good Luck!

take some peptic bismol

i know its pepto but thought the play on words was good here.

antacids will help right away, but you should go see your doctor (especially a gastro specialist) so they can prescribe you some h2 antagonists

Diet Diet Diet! No caffine, low fat, low acid, watch your dairy. It's super hard I know - but look at it this way, the last time it acted up I had to strictly watch my diet for a couple months and lost 17 pounds. Good luck and I hope you feel better! - oh yeah, no beer either.

take an empty box and kick it!; yell into a pillow, go and hit some Golf balls or soft/base balls at a batting cage. A Gastro Dr. gave me that advice when I was still in high school and getting that bottled up energy was a God send.

Still to this day use the golf balls at a driving range and use guided imagery--think about what or who is bugging you and whack the ball.

Have not had many reoccuring problems with the peptic ulcer over the years following that Doc's advice and did not have to take any med's to boot.

Good luck!

Peptic Ulcers

Home care for peptic ulcers often centers on neutralizing the stomach acid.
Don't smoke, and avoid coffee and alcohol. These habits increase gastric acid production and weaken the mucosal barrier of the GI tract, thus promoting ulcer formation and slowing ulcer healing.
Don't take aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Acetaminophen is a good substitute for some conditions. If acetaminophen doesn't help, talk to your health care provider about alternatives.
If your symptoms are mild, try an over-the-counter antacid or nonprescription histamine (H2) blocker to neutralize stomach acid. Usually, however, stronger prescription medications are needed.
No particular diet is helpful for people with peptic ulcers.
At one time, medical professionals recommended a bland diet and avoidance of spicy or greasy foods.
We now know that diet has little effect on ulcers. In some people, however, certain foods seem to aggravate symptoms.
Avoid eating any foods that aggravate your symptoms.

Ulcers today are very treatable. Don't suffer when you really don't have to. Check out this reliable source for information and then go see your doctor. It may not even be an ulcer.

Most ulcers are caused by a bacterium called H. pylori. Go to your doctor and he'll get you some antibiotics to kill the bacteria and a proton pump inhibitor to stop the acid production.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Only DNA G above has the correct answer. Stomach (peptic) and duodenal ulcers are caused by a bacteria (Helicobacter Pylori). Diet may make things feel a bit worse or a bit better, but food isn't going to get rid of the bacteria.

These days, the treatment is 7 to 14 days of PrevPac, which consists of Prevacid (the proton pump imhibitor which stops stomach acid production) and two different antibiotics -- amoxicillin and clarithromicyn. You could get these three drugs separately, but having it all together in a daily packet sure is easier. (I know, because I had a duodenal ulcer last year). Here's one link with info.

Take the pills. A week later, no more ulcer.
