I have been diagnosed with a peptic ulcer. Can I safely drink decafe coffee?

What is not a risk factor
Eating spicy foods or drinking caffeine or moderate amounts of alcohol were once thought to increase your risk of developing an ulcer. This is no longer believed to be true. However, although eating certain foods or drinking certain beverages may not increase your risk of developing an ulcer, they may cause symptoms of heartburn or indigestion. You may need to avoid them if they bother you.

Most health professionals do not believe that psychological stress causes ulcers. However, when combined with other risk factors, stress may increase your risk of developing a peptic ulcer.

no

It's not the caffeine that is going to mess up your ulcer, it's the acid in the coffee. Stay away from acidic food and beverage.

no coffee or tea
or anything that contains caffeine..at all

The smart thing to do is to consult with your doctor for a more definitive answer.

All coffee is extremely acid.

A cup maybe /not by the gallon.

i wouldnt drink coffee tea or sodas and not a drop of milk.if you are taking meds that coat your stomach you might be able to drink decaf coffee but ask your md.

too much acid i have problems with mine to.

If you take prilosec otc then maybe you can..sometimes ulcers are due to an infection and your doctor can prescribe medicine that you take for 14 days ....it kills the infection and you never get these symptoms again...but only your doctor can determine this with bloodwork..good luck

Caffeine is a stimulator of acid secretion so decaff would definitely be better. Coffee though is a slightly acidic drink( I think somewhere around pH 5), which could possibly irritate the ulcer, unless you balanced the pH with milk.
