Does Manuka honey cure Peptic Ulcers?

Does Manuka honey cure Peptic Ulcers?

There is no evidence that it does. Peptic ulcers are caused by bacterial infection by Helicobacter pylori, and manuka honey was reported to have an antibacterial effect against it in vitro. But, treating patients with the honey for 2 weeks did not eliminate the infection, according to a UK study.

So it could be that in the conditions of the digestive tract, the honey is no longer effective, or the bacteria becomes more resistant. It could also be that this study was too small in scope and perhaps a longer course or stronger dose would be effective.

I would need to add that medical doctors are often gamma-irradiating honey or pasteurizing it which kills any harmful agents or risks such as infant botulism but also all live enzymes and the hydrogen peroxide activity. For more info, go to: http://www.wedderspoon.ca Report It
