Pelvic pain for 2 1/2 weeks... any advice?

I've had this pelvic pain for about 2 1/2 weeks now. I went to the Dr. last Thurs. and I had a pelvic exam and did some testing for STDs. I'm pretty positive that I don't have STDs and that it isn't the cause of my pain. I have another appt. this Thurs. but the pain has been getting worse and worse. The pain is the worst at night and if I walk around too much the pain is even worse! My aunt, my cousin, and my mom all have had a cyst somewhere in the pelvic area (I think an ovarian cyst) so I was thinking maybe I have one too, but wouldn't the Dr. have caught that during the pelvic exam? I don't have health insurance so I've been going to my Health Center at the college I attend. I was thinking I might need to get an ultrasound done but don't think that they offer that there. If you would kindly give me some advice on what you think I might have or maybe over the counter meds that I can take until I see the Dr. again. I don't see her til 3 more days and the pain is getting pretty bad.

OMG! I just read up on Endometriosis and it sounds like what I have!! If I do have it what am I going to have to do so that it doesn't affect my fertility. I really hope I don't have it :(

I'm not sure what type of pain you're having...specifically, but you should definitely ask if Endometriosis could be a possibility. It can cause debilitating pain...I've had several surgeries for it. If you could specify what it feels like, that might be better also. There's no "exam" that can be done to find out if that's the problem, they have to do exploratory surgery...a procedure called a Laparoscopy...it's not bad at all, so don't be scared. Also, since you don't have health insurance, is there any way you can get on medical assistance? There are different programs that can help, depending on which state you live in, how old you are, your financial situations, etc. Just check it out. Go to your Health Department and ask about medical assistance. I hope everything goes well with your next doctor appointment! Good luck! I'll pray for you!

Endometriosis is a possibility.
Back problems and musculoskeletal imbalances can sometimes cause pelvic pain as well.

Call the doctor's office and tell them what you have said here. If you are in serious pain, they should be able to squeeze you in sooner.

If you want to do something before you see the doctor, stop by the library and look for books about ovarian cysts. See if they have the symptoms that you have been experiencing. Find out what treatments are recommended for them.

If your symptoms don't match ovarian cysts, look for a general medical book that defines symptoms. I often steer folks to the Mayo Clinic Family Health Book. Look up your symptoms and see what sorts of things fit.

Read up on them. This will help you talk more intelligently with the doctor when you go to your appointment.

Take it easy. Try to rest. Dunk some towels in hot water, squeeze them out and lay them on your stomach. See if that helps. Don't take a bath because you don't want to make things worse if you have a bacterial infection. You really need to be seen by a doctor. All you can do is wait and see. Other than that, just do what you can to minimize the pain. Tylenol, water, hot towels and staying in bed.

Hope you feel better soon.

You might have an ovarian cyst, however the only way to know for sure is to get your doctor to send you for an ultrasound to have a look at your abdomen and ovaries.

Endometriosis could be the cause for your pelvic pain too. That is what my gyno thinks is causing my pelvic pain, however we won't know for sure until I've had a laparoscopy done as that is the only way to diagnose and confirm endometriosis.

I would phone your doctors office and tell them that you have been experiencing a lot of pain and that your pain is getting worse, see if they can get you in sooner or whether there is someone else that would be able to see you. If you're in a lot of pain and it's after hours or during the night, I would recommend going to the ER at the hospital as ovarian cysts could twist and rupture causing intense pain and needs to be attended to immediately sometimes.

Good luck, I hope it's nothing serious and they find a cause for your pelvic pain.
