Pelvic && abdomen ultrasoundddd?

heyy i'm 15 and tomorrow i am getting a pelvic && abdominal ultrasound...i was just wondering what happens in both. i've had a "stomach" ultrasound before, but i never had a pelvic one. is it the same? or do they do anything different?

gracias =]

With the abdominal part of the ultrasound the technician will put a special wand on your abdomen (over the area around where the bladder and your reproductive organs) are after applying some gel (it will feel a bit warm or cool depending on the temperature in the room) that then causes pictures to show up on the screen (and they will be able to see your bladder because of having had to drink a lot of water unless given other instructions).

Then after that, if you had to drink some water they will ask you to empty your bladder and then get back on the table. The next part is the pelvic (also called vaginal) part where the tech will ask you to insert the wand (they do this because they know if they do it themselves it could cause more pain). Then after the wand is inserted they will press on your ovaries and uterus. The pictures will then show up on the screen.

Then after that the test is done. It takes about 15-20 minutes to do. The report then will go to your doctor and you will get the results about 3 or 4 days after the test depending on how busy the radiologist (the doctor that reads x-rays such as ultrasounds) is and how quickly they get the report out.
