Pelvic & Tailbone Fracture?

HI. I have had an awful day! I feel off of a swing and I have fractured my pelvic bone, I have fractured my tailbone and I have fractured one rib. All for falling of a swing that wasn't that high in the air. The doctor said I landed just right.

Anyway I have been put on crutches because of the mild pelvic fracture. While being on crutches is this going to slow down the healing time on my tailbone and rib? I have noticed while searching on the internet about tailbone breaks that it says not to become immobile that slows down healing. Any advice, personal eperience etc would be nice. This is my first break ever and I end up breaking three things. What an awful Memorial day I having.

Thanks to anyone that can help!

Ouch! I was in a car accident 13 years ago and fractured my pelvis in several places, a vertebra and my tailbone as well. I would recommend you take it easy but definitely don't become immobile! After 4 days in the hospital, my doctor had me going to physical therapy and using a walker to get around so I'd suggest you do what you can but don't go overboard as pelvic injuries take a long time to heal. Best of luck to you for a speedy recovery!! :)

P.S. I hate to say this, but odds are that the pelvis/tailbone fractures will become permanent annoyances. Sitting/being in one position for long periods of time is painful.

ouch! i broke pretty much the same bones during a snowboarding accident a couple of years ago. to this day i can't sit still for very long, sometimes its even hard to get through a movie. i think it's because i rushed back into things too quickly after my injury. the most important thing is to take time and let your body heal before pushing it again.

so rest up! hope ya feel better.

I broke my tailbone in September of 2006 after falling down a flight of stairs and I tell ya! It still hurts! I did the perscribed excersises and everything and up to this day, I can't sit for very long with out discomfort. My doctor told me that because there isn't a cast that would help fix the fracture (imagine that for a second lol) it will probably hurt me for the rest of my life. That sucks for me I know. But hopefully you are not in the same boat as I. As for the rib problem, I don't know, but from what I've heard from my husband (he was a lineman for his football college and sustained many injuries) once the ribs heal all together you won't have problems. Good luck to you! Sorry to hear about your fall.
