Just had a pelvic ultrasound done today...?

I just had a pelvic ultrasound done today and won't get the results 'til a few days and I'm freakin out!! During the u/s the technician asked me if I had ever had surgery before (which I haven't) and now I just can't stop thinking about what could be wrong and why he would ask me that. About 3 1/2 wks ago I started having cramp-like pains which turned into general pelvic pain. The Physician @ my health center did a pelvic exam and didn't know the cause of the pain so she suggested I go to a Gyn & have a u/s done. I haven't gone to a Gyn yet and am waiting on the results of the u/s. I watched the u/s screen the whole time and saw that he focused on these black circle-like spots and measured them. There were at least 2 small ones and 1 big one. What could they be??? Any suggestions? I probably won't get the results from my Dr. 'til the end of this week, and possibly next week.

PLEASE HELP!!

It's okay calm down.Although I'm not sure why they'd ask you if you'd had surgery. I know from experince that the "dots" are most likely ovarian cysts. It's treatable though, you won't die. Just wait until you get your results back. Your OBGYN will go over everything with you. You might want to search up some info on PCOS (polycysitic ovary syndrome) as well. But feel better! And I know pelvic cramping sucks and hurts!

You will die..............lol

They were measuring your uterus and your ovaries. They were making sure they were the right size and so forth. He probably asked about having surgery because of the possibility of scar tissue. When I had mine done it only took a few days to get the results back. Do not be surprised if you get some cramping today or tomorrow as well. I did and I asked my doctor about it and it was normal to get that. Try to not worry about it, I know it is easier said then done but worrying will get you nowhere. Good luck!

I too had a pelvic ultrasound today. When I was there, they asked me the same question, and I too answered no then asked what they saw that would have prompted the question. He said that he often asks because women who have had either their tubes tied or an ovary removed sometimes fail to mention it, and when they are conducting the ultrasound the are searching for something that is not there. Better to be upfront then misdiagnosed. Good luck.

Black circle like spots just indicate a round/cylinder fluid area. The black appearance could show a cyst, a blood vessel show in cross section, or even the bladder....
Generally in a pelvic ultrasound all of the pelvic organs are imaged in several views to get a complete idea of their appearance, size, content...so that could be why he seemed to focus of the same things over the exam and the tech would always measure structures as it helps the doctor see if they are in the normal range, which could indicate what the problem was.
Just like a doctor would ask about your medical history, an ultrasound tech needs to ask so he knows what to look for too. Perhaps you doctor did not give him a very good history or description of your pain and symptoms. A description of the type of pain, any previous diseases or surgeries excetera... would help to tell him where to focus his efforts and what to look for.
So black circle and measurements are completely routine and do not necessarily indicate anything is the matter.
Don't worry, you will get the results soon enough, and they will be able to help you with your pelvic pain, worrying will not make the results come any faster.

It sounds a lot like endometriosis. And I would know because I was diagnosed with it at the beginning of this year. I had to have a pelvic ultrasound (not a fun experience.) Endometriosis causes pelvic pain and I would imagine that is probably what it is.

Don't freak out. Just wait for the results. If they cannot find out what it is, go to your Gyno. It took my docs 3 years to finally diagnose my Endo. You don't want to go that long with that pain.

Hope this helps a little.
