Question about pelvic exam.?

I had went into the hospital due to pain in my lower side about 2 years ago. They had given me a pelvic exam to make sure it was not at atopic pregnancy or anything and it happened to be nothing. I have only had 3 sexual partners and am sorta a paranoid person when it comes to health. This was the only pelvic exam I have ever had and was wondering if they would have tested for stds because they did take two swabs? Also the only person I would have been concerned with was my first sex partner who I had 4 years ago. Do you think something would have shown up by now if I would have contracted an std from him?

Please schedule a pelvic exam. If you do not have insurance, check for free or low-cost clinics in your area. Sexually active women need to receive regular pelvic exams. Some STDs produce no obvious symptoms in women, and a doctor can conclusively answer your question following an exam and any necessary lab tests.

4 years ago. Most likely Yes.

It is possible they tested for STDs but they should have told you that was what they were doing. You should have a pelvic exam every year as problems can develop and catching them early is best for treatment. Also, I can understand you would think your first sex partner was the only one you needed to worry about but you should really worry about all your partners.

No they do not test for STD's unless they suspect them or you ask for them. You need to be getting a yearly pap smear and pelvic exam and should get tested for STD's since you ahve had multiple partners. Call your clinic and get all of this scheduled ASAP. Your health is at risk by skipping pap smears.

Not generally if you don't give them any reason to suspect you would need one.

Pelvic examines, are awarkward, but they get rid of a lot of worry. Go see your doctor.
