Pelvic examination?

i am scared im in 3 or 4 weeks going to go and have my first pelvic examination. what should i repare for and will it hurt. i no everyone says yer it hurts a little just dont tense up. well is it really that easy. i want to no exactly what happens. if ur a doctor or a nurse please help me. i need as much advice as possible.

Ok, first dear, try not to worry.. it's really not a big deal.. slightly embarrasing, slightly uncomfortable, but no pain involved...

The doctor will come in for small talk... you'll have on a gown and a little sheet... the dr will then have you lay back and scoot down to the edge of the table and place your feet in things called stirrups... they are just to hold your legs apart and give your feet somewhere to be..

More than likely, you will have a breast exam, the dr is just checking for lumps.. lol. while they try to keep you calm by talking about the weather.. lol..

Then the dr will look at the outside of your vagina.. they will move a light close so they can see.. they are just looking for cuts or sores, etc... then they will tell you they are going to touch you.. they will open the area for a better look and then stick one finger in your vagina... this is where it gets uncomfortable.. I just stare at the ceiling and breathe.. lol.. they will probe around for a minute.. and push down on your lower stomache with the other hand.. lol.. sometimes I swear they are trying to join hands through me.. but it doesn't hurt.. just feels kinda yucky...

Then the pap usually starts.. that's a little less fun ... they insert a speculum in you (think artificial man) and open it... they will look around, stick in q tip things.. and take a few samples, but it doesn't really hurt either... just again, uncomfortable...

You'll be fine... It will be ok.
