Blood In Stool?

I noticed blood in my stool on and off for the last few months, this morning it was very bad so I am going to the doctor. Problem is I just got new insurance and need to find a doctor. When searching for a physician I have a few options and I dont know which to choose. My options are

-Primary Care: Family practice, general practice, internal medicine, obsetrics, pediatrics
or
- Hundreds of specialst are available(if you know a type of doctor who specializes in poop let me know)

Where should I go?????

if you want to go directly to a doctor who specializes in that issue..go and look for a Gastroenterologist. But if you cant find one, go to internal medicine and they will refer you to a gastroenterologist if necessary.

call and ask your insurance company

Go first to a general practice doctor and he/she will do an exam - and make the necessary referrals for you.

gastroenterologist

if it's red it is coming from some point after the stomach. can be simply from hemorrhoids, or a slight tear at the anus, or can be coming from higher up like diverticulitis or cancer. higher chance of cancer or diverticulitis if you have a family history of it.
If it is more black can be coming from a stomach or esophageal ulcer. start with a regular doctor. they can direct you to the right help.

Well, to be honest, I don't know of any poop doctors but I can tell you that you very well could have an ulcer. Ulcers can give you a bloody stool. You can also get blood in your stool from anal sex and from just being overly constipated over and over. See a doctor because I'm sure there are lots of other reasons for this; some that could be very serious like cancer, warts, hemorroids, etc. Good luck to you,

depends on the requirements of your insurance company...they may want you to see a family practice guy to do all of the easy stuff first (check for hemorrhoids....) before they spend the big bucks sending you to a gastroenterologist and he wants to do a colonoscopy...
if they say they do not care...they go straight for the gastroenterologist.
you do not say how old you are, but i would think of hemorrhoids, fissures, crohns, colitis, infection, and then maybe cancer
good luck
