Is diabetes one of the standard tests that doctors give at a routine physical?

I am a 15 yeaold female and i think i may have diabetes. i had a physical about 2 months ago at a pediatrics office. would they have testyed it then?

Hi there , I am a diabetic and use 2 types of insulin twice a day , as for your question , no it isn't a standard test, the doc will test you if you are having symptoms like extreme frequent thirst, frequent urination,dry mouth , dizziness , mood swings... or if you mention that member(s) of your family have this disease. If you have 2 or more of the symptoms talk to you doc right away, and get tested,Diabetes isn't called "the silent killer" for nothing.

Probably not for a 15 year old, unless you were experiencing symptoms. Although, if they did blood work they may have checked a glucose level. Why do you think you have diabetes?

Not normally for someone your age. They may however have done a blood glucose test (finger pricked, then swiped with litmus paper). If they did, the test would show whether you had high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) or low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and you and your parents would have been informed. The diagnosis would have been confirmed with a urine test.

If you have heard nothing, you are fine.

They may have tested it if you have any family history. They generally do not run a glucose test randomly on 15 year olds.
If you have any predisposing factors;family history,obescity,sedentary life style,it might be worth requesting a test.

Ask your doctor if you had one of the following done:
a CMP which stands for comprehensive metabolic panel. It includes a blood sugar level.
a BMP which stands for a basic metabolic panel. It does NOT include a blood sugar level.
a SMAC-7. Does NOT include a blood sugar level.
a SMAC-14 of SMAC-28. It does include a blood sugar level.

If you think you're a diabetic, have him do a Hemoglobin A1C. It's a tell-all.

That's exactly how I found out about three years ago. Yes, they do test your blood sugar.
