Can you challenge the LPN exam??

I live in PA and I know that my sister went halfway through RN school (about a year) then moved away. where she lives now she found out that she had enough education and training to challenge the LPN test. I was wondering if I can do this because I am graduating National Registry Paramedic school in 2 months and we have more actual skills training and about the same education as RNs except for the actual "nursing" classes (we study A&P, cardiology, pharmacology,pediatrics, pathophys., gerintology,GI,trauma, the whole nine yards, plus we can do skills such as IVs, med administration, cardiac monitoring, Defibrillation/pacing/cardioversion, airway intubations (something nurses arent even allowed to do), chest decompressions, cricothorotomy). Any ideas?? any info is great!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for whoever answered that paramedic training isnt anywhere that of an RN, you obviously havent worked around prehospital services lately. We are trained and licensed to do things nurses arent allowed to even try! We are very highly trained, medically inclined people!!! I ask about the LPN test because someone was saying that you could and I'd never heard of it. If you think Paramedics aren't as educated or skilled as a nurse, dont call an ambulance when your having The Big One, call and ER and just see if a nurse will come and get you!! (I bet you'll find out the hard way that they wont, and if they did, they wouldnt know what to do when they got there!)

I'm neither a nurse nor a paramedic, but I can tell you one thing about certification and licensure: The correct specific training is more important than knowledge in obtaining professional status in anything. I may have the knowledge myself to pass some cert tests, but without the correct education, even with equivalent or better training, there is little chance of licensure/certification.

Sorry but that's my license in unrelated fields, and what i have gleamed from experience with medical professionals.

As someone who worked as a RN for 22 years and supervised paramedic students who were on my hospital unit as part of their internship; I challenge your assumption that that your education is anyway near the education of an RN!

Your education as a paramedic prepares you to work as a paramedic! The 2 jobs are completely different!

If you are graduating from paramedic school, why are you interested in becoming a LPN? I suspect that paramedics make more money.

You need to check with your local colleges and find out what you need to do. I think maybe all you need to do are your clinicals. My Sister-In-Law lives in California and she was an EMT. She applied for the nursing program at Davis and was told all she needed was her clinicals and now she is an RN. Each state is different. I have been a nurse for almost 20 years and now I am working on my Masters and eventually my Nurse Practitioner. So I wish you all the luck on your future endeavors. Good Luck!!
