I have had 4 colds in 2 months, what is wrong with me? |
I am diabetic, on medicine and it is controlled. I had my first cold sept 29th, got better, got another one 2 wks later. took antibiotics for it, got better. had cold week of thanksgiving, was better this past monday, woke up sick again with a cold. I work in a pediatrics office, but I was my hands and use antibacterial gel all day long. Your immune system is rather weak, thats why any passing cold/flu hits you. Take more vitamin C, Ecinachea, rose hips tea is great and try to stay away from antibiotics, they affect immune system. Besides working at the pediatrics office , its a wonder if you would stay without flu. Wipe your desk, phone, keybord with disinfectant often. Also, hon, dont use antibacterial gel, better wash your hands much more often and use hand cream. Feel better :) Your immune system must be off track somehow... well the antibacterial gel only helps to a degree. you may have a weaker immune system due to the diabetes. try taking a daily dose of vitamin C. everytime i feel like i may be getting sick i take echinacea and it generally wards off the ailment. also they make this stuff now called airborne. i didn't care for the taste but some people swear by it. Could be that you haven't got rid of the first cold. Don't for get, the common cold is caused by a virus - antibiotics are useless against viruses. They treated any bacterial infection you may have had, though. You may need to slow it down a bit. Have you continued to work while ill? Maybe your body is running our of resources. Try taking 2-3 days off to replenish. Stick with soups and teas and lots of water and rest, rest, rest! If in that time you don't feel an improvement, see your doctor. The thing is that u are diabetic, and your immune system it is easier to harm than a immune system by others.U dont have to worry.U just have to get well TOTALLY.Wait until u dont have any symptome of flu.Drink a lot water, tee, juices whatever u want.I dont know how your physical condition is,but try to do some sports. how did you get a job in a pediatrics office without knowing the difference between bacteria and viruses? taking antibiotics and using antibacterial soaps does NOTHING for a cold. a cold is caused by a virus. this virus has a very high mutation rate, making it impossible to create any 'cure' for the cold. you haven't had four colds, you've had one. your body got used to the cold and began to eliminate it, then a mutation occured (which happens in about 1 in every 5 cellular take overs, so a LOT) that your body had not encountered. it took some time for the virus to reamplify in your system, so you got better, then worse. the best system is to take some anti cold caplets to treat the symptoms and take 2 days off work. your boss can't complain, since coming in to work sick is highly irresponsible for anyone in the healthcare industry. to minimize the odds of catching a cold in the future, avoid people who are coughing or sneezing. the virus can only be transferred by fluid (such as the water droplets exhaled from the lungs, expelled in coughs and sneezes) contacting your eyes, nose, mouth, etc. wash your hands before eating, since there might be some contaminated fluid on your hands. (totally unavoidable unless you live in a bubble) don't share drinks with co workers, don't place any communal objects (eg. pens, pencils) near your mouth. and as a courtesy to others, always cough or sneeze into a handkerchief, kleenex, or your hand, so you arent spreading the virus around as much. |
