Possible Peanut Allergy in a 28 month old child... please read on?

My daughter is 28 mo. old & I suspect she is allergic to peanuts. Here is some back history:The first incident was about 10 mo. ago. We had been at the park & came home for lunch followed by a nap. I made her & her sis a peanut butter(wal-mart's generic creamy blend) and jelly(Smuckers strawberry) sanwitch. She ate about 5 bites & we put her down for the nap. When she got up about 2 1/2 hours later, her eyes were swollen & watering. I was not to worried, I thought it had been a reaction to being outside (it was spring) & rolling in the grass. The 2nd time this happened was about 3 mo. later when she got ahold of her sis sandwich and took a couple bites- again this was before nap time. She went down for a nap & woke up with swollen eyes. We talked to the doctor & were told not to worry because she has eaten many reases (sp?) peanut butter candy & has been fine so there's no allergy. It happened again today! Have any of you experienced this? What should I do? Is this a peanut allergy?

I thought there may be a reaction to the preservatives in the other peanut butter so I tried the Smuckers organic/natural peanut butter today. Nothing else today was out of the normal!

It very well could be an allergy. Swollen eyes are a symptom of an allergy; I speak from experience with that!!
I wouldn't mess around with testing her system on your own. Peanut allergies can be extremely serious or fatal. If she has a massive reaction, you may not be able to treat her quickly enough on your own.
Tell your pediatrician that she has had 3 reactions to peanut butter and you would like her allergy tested, so what is the first step in getting that done. Don't take no for an answer. You're her mom and you have a right to get the testing and treatment you think your child needs.

In the meantime, make sure you have toddler benadryl on hand, in case she gets into peanuts and has a reaction again. You should then give her the benadryl as prescribed on the bottle, according to her weight, age.

why don't you get her tested for allergies

I have been able to eat Peanut butter and anything else containing peanuts from age 3 until last Nov 2006. I am 36 yrs old and was just diagnosed with a peanut allergy Nov 13th 2006. I have eaten them all my life and then just a fingertip of peanut butter made my mouth burn, I was allergic suddenly to something I had always eaten. I would not mess around with something that could be fatal the next time around. Get her tested asap. Not to sound bossy but the recommendations for starting kids on peanuts/peanut butter is 3 years of age and not any younger for that reason( allergic reactions).

i don't think you should take anymore chances, something is making her sick, take her to the doctor and get her tested
