Peanut Allergy Problem?

I have had a fatal allergy to all types of nuts since i was six years old & if i eat one i could possibly die. I have read in a magazine about a girl like me with a peanut allergy that kissed her boyfriend and died because traces of it was still in his mouth. I NEVER KISSED A BOY BEFORE & I'M 15! Should i be afraid of the consequences of kissing a boy because of this? And what should i do to get over my fear of kissing for this reason?

This is a real and serious problem. For starters, you should always have an epipen on you. You, your relatives, friends, etc should know how to use it. You should also be wearing a medical alert bracelet.

As far as kissing a boy, you just need to be careful. The best thing would be if he did not eat nuts at all. Brushing/ washing the mouth may not be remove all traces of nuts.

Unfortunately, not every boy is going to be considerate or may not understand the risks to you and may even lie/forget about eating nuts. Therefore, you should always have an epipen.

This is a very serious problem but you should also not live your life in fear. Just remember to ask questions and be honest and tell your boyfriends about your allergies.

My husband has the same allergy; i don't eat peanut butter.
But soy butter and sesame butter are safe from him.

There is NOTHING wrong with asking a guy you think you might want to kiss "When do you last eat peanut butter?
Reese's Pieces? Regular M&M's? Anything with peanut butter."

More importantly, your doctor can give you an EPIPEN ( it requires a prescription), so that if you are exposed to nuts, you will have longer than 20 minutes to get to the emergency room.

l remember reading that story it happened to a girl in Quebec, a few months later l read a follow up story on her tragic death it was later confirmed her death was not from kissing her boyfriend with peanutbutter on his breath but she had actually eaten peanut butter her self. So l don't think you need to worry about kissing someone with peanut butter on their breath. but just to be safe have your boy friend brush his teeth after eating peanut butter and you will be ok.
