Can I donate blood with a peanut allergy?

I have a peanut allergy, with very high severity. Will I be allowed to donate blood, or would the complication be passed on through it?

Yes you can. When filling out the paperwork, they will ask you about allergies, but peanut allergy does not preclude you from GIVING blood.

By the way, if you have not done so already, you should have an allergy alert bracelet or necklace and carry an epi-pen (which your doctor can prescribe). I don't go anywhere without that epi-pen since peanut allergy can be fatal!

Currently you can still donate blood if you have severe allergies. However, this may change given the fact that people have suffered severe reactions after receiving blood from an allergic donor.

As a sufferer of many severe allergies, I do not donate blood, as I would not want someone to become ill or even die because they developed an allergy from receiving my blood.
