My friend has a Peanut allergy, what are the effects?

My friend has a peanut allergy and cannot eat any different forms of it... Like Walnuts, Cashews, etc.

I was wondering what would happen to him if he even eats one? Can he die from just one bite or make him very ill?

He could most definitely die from just one bite. People can actually have a severe allergic reaction to just touching something that has residue from a nut or nut product. Basically what happens is that the person has developed an antibody that reacts to nuts. When a nut product is detected on or in the body anaphylaxis occurs. When this occurs the body releases massive quantities of a chemical that causes swelling in the body. One area that swells is the respiratory tract. Obviously if the windpipe is swollen shut, you can't breathe and you die. People who are experiencing anaphylaxis have to be quickly treated with a neurotransmitter called epinephrine. People with severe allergies to things like nuts, shell fish, or bee stings often carry an epi pen, which is a shot that can be self administered in case of an allergic reaction. If the allergy is severe enough there may not even be enough time to get the person to the hospital or for EMS to arrive before they die.

Depends on the severity. It could range for redness in the face to Anaphalatic shock followed by death.

he could die. if you are a friend, don't test it. even the dust or residue could be fatal. ask your friend all the questions you need answered.

tell him don't even chance it he could not be able to breath good or not at all but break out really bad is the least worries but it really could cause death have a great day.

I have never heard about this type of allergy. I thought it was called Penis envy. And some women get it. Oh. Sorry it's Peanut! allergy your asking about? My bad.

My son has a bad peanut allergy. He gets pink eyes, asthma or difficulty breathing and pin hives everywhere. If he has other nuts, he usually gets a severe stomach ache and vomits them up. Anyone can die from them. They should probably consult their doctor as to what they should do if they ingest a peanut/nut item by mistake. They may need an epipen to carry with them all the time, which could save their life in the event of a severe allergic reaction.

Peanut allergy can vary wildly. Some people get rashes, hives, and/or vomiting from exposure to peanuts.

Some people suffer from an anaphylactic reaction, which is life-threatening. For these people, exposure to peanuts leads to swelling of the airways and circulatory collapse. If rapid medical treatment isn't given (and sometimes even then) then they can die.

Ask your friend which one of these groups he falls into!

If your friend is severely allergic he should have an epi-pen. If you spend much time with him you should ask him more about it. He may need your help one day!
