Good travel foods for someone with Peanut Allergy? |
Can anyone suggest any good travel foods for someone who can't eat peanuts? What about baby carrots, celery sticks, homemade nut free cookies... Rice crackers...You can also find a good selection of foods (meals, snacks etc.) in stores designed for those of us with allergies. Some pharmacies carry them, and some hospitals have a store of this type as well. Organic stores usually have a section that contains nut-free foods, gluton-free foods and vegetarian foods. Fresh Fruits and vegetables that will stand up to travel condtions, such as apples, oranges, carrots, & celery...also, dried fruits such as raisins, cranberries, and bananas. I like the Clif Bars best and am sure some of those are peanut free. You can make your own granola and they chuck it up and bag. Assuming that you can eat other kinds of nuts then almonds and walnuts would be good. Grapes travel pretty well, as long as they don't get squished! Apples too, you could cut one up and put it in Tupperware to make it less messy. Whole grain crackers (like Breton) and pre-packaged string cheese might work in place of a sandwich. I've taken all of these at one time or another and they've worked out for me :) Having experience packing snacks for kids to take to school (where nut products are NOT allowed) here are some suggestions: Graham crackers, dry cereal, dried fruit, hard candies, some things like Skittles, rice cakes/crackers, potato chips, soy butter and jelly sandwiches (you can find bread that is dairy free. if you have a Crest or HEB close they have safe bread), pretzels, some healthfood store cookies,.... |
