If you have a severe peanut allergy, how do you know that you have a severe peanut allergy before its too late?

The first few reaction are not fatal but they are pretty bad. Then you get tested and know for sure.

u lick the peanut b4 u eat it if u pass out or shake or wet ya self u know not to eat it

dont eat them simple as that

Doctors can test for it.

If you are allergic to peanuts, merely touching a peanut against your lips will produce an instant tingling sensation and your lips will swell. If you are allergic to peanuts and chew one in your mouth your whole mouth will start tingling and could feel like you are chewing glass. If you swallow the peanut (and even if you don't) your throat will swell. This is called Anaphalactic Shock and it can die from asphixiation. You can't breathe.

If your allergy is severe, even kissing someone else who has been eating peanuts will cause your lips to tingle.

You can do allergy testing but it's quite expensive. Our whole family has been through that.

Eat 1/8th. of a peanut butter sandwich in the waiting room of your Doctor's surgery?

If you have had some exposure to peanuts in the not too distant past, a RAST blood test will give a good idea of any allergy and some measure of its severity. Your GP can check this. The only other reliable way is to have an in patient peanut challenge under medical supervision.

Allergic to peanuts. A little causes my nose to run and my tummy to become upset. Too much and I have all those nasty flu symptoms from all orifaces.

IF you are allergic a doctor will rate the intensity of the allergy. Anything 3 or higher you should totally avoide peanuts and peanut oil.

People with peanut allergies, severe ones, can become violently ill from just the smell.

So stay away from peanuts!!!!!

One of my kids has a severe peanut allergy and the first startling reaction happened when he was a baby - as a result the doctor did a blood test and then he was tested in safe conditions in hospital. The first reaction involved just touching peanut and involved swelling of the face and eyes and difficulty breathing. As far as I know he had not had contact before this but very small amounts cause reactions so I cannot be totally sure that this was the first contact.

If you went to the doctor and had a blood test, they'd be able to tell you or it may even be in your records already, if someone else in your family has the same sort of allergy... mother, father etc.
