My upper lip keeps itching - could this be a peanut allergy? |
My mom opened a chocolate shop over Christmas break and I've been eating her chocolate covered peanuts like crazy. They're the only nuts I eat. But lately, I've been getting a tingly itch on a very small spot on the upper right and left corners of my lip. It alternates between sides, but it's only one at a time. I've never had any nut problems before, and if this isn't the nuts, then I'm wondering what could have caused it. I don't think it's directly related with the nuts, because it happened once when I hadn't eaten any for a few days. It starts as a tingly itch, and the more I scratch it, it turns into an addicting numb pain that I have to keep itching. Help? first thing stop itching it you will only encourage the reaction to get worse ... more scratchy...more itchy!!!!! next stop eating the peanuts.. if this is the only thing you have been having a lot of and is out of the ordinary .. get to your doctor and ask to be tested in the meantime avoid peanuts. this sounds like it's only a mild reaction at present but as is the way with allergies next time it could be worse so avoid til your doc says you can or can't have them.. !!! i dont think its a peanut allergy. it sounds like ur getting a cold sore. those start out tingly and itchy. if u were allergic to peanuts, u would be having more reactions, like hives, swollen throat and tongue, itching on other parts of ur body. stop scratching u might be spreading it that way. the liquid from a cold sore is very contagious. but in the meantime lay off of the peanuts until u know for sure. |
