The best invention since eating? Allergy-free peanut butter?

What do you guys think? From what I understand, they've already found what triggers the allergic response in many plants and its absolutely safe to remove that gene from the food plant in question.

I mean it is absolutely safe as in you won't end up with a food product that was in any way more harmful than regular peanuts. It's impossible without at least 2-3 million years to work with for the new plant to have any new harmful features.

Well, great, I am just now enjoying my "reduced fat" peanut butter and I think it is better than the regular stuff.

The problem is that different people are allergic to different properties of the peanut. That is why some can eat peanut butter but not an actual peanut, etc. So, to remove one gene would not help everyone...just some. Having a peanut allergy myself, I would not be willing to take the risk in eating something that was claiming to be allergy-free. Thank you, but I have been way too close to death too many times before. I would rather just steer clear and stick with my soybutter.

When you say 'absolutely safe' you mean they have been running human trials for years?
I think most folks with that allergy would still stay away, the risks are too high if even a little slips under the wire.
