How do you find out you have an extremely deadly peanut allergy without dieing?

Or any other deadly allergy.

Usually the first reaction isn't extreme, but after multiple exposures you get to the point where you are in shock. The first reaction could be hives, or swollen lips, etc. For my daughter, the first reaction was hives, then she began the vomitting the next two times she was exposed. Thankfully, the first time she went into shock, we were at the allergists office. The rule of thumb is, the more exposures, the worse the reaction.

An allergy clinic can do a skin prick test. DO NOT EAT EVEN A SINGLE SPEC if you think your are allergic. Not without an epi shot in your hand or standing outside an ER.

Respiratory obstruction can kill you. :(

Hope that helps.

Go to an allergist and explain your concerns. They can test you in a controlled setting. Mine gave me a scratch test where they use a pin to make small scratches in your arm. They have extracts of the substances that people can be allergic to and will put a *small* amount on the scratch. If the spot puffs up and/or turns red, you have an allergy. This is how I found out I was allergic to peanuts (but not a severe allergy).

I found out I was allergic to iodine dye when I had anaphylaxis after they administered the dye during a CT scan. Fortunately I was already at the hospital so they gave me the drugs right away that kept my airway from closing all the way.

If you ever feel the back of your throat get very warm and start to swell get medical help immediately. As I discovered, it can progress very rapidly. If you ever need to use an epi-pen go to the hospital right away afterwards. Don't assume you're fine because the epi-pen worked, you still need to be under observation. (Epi-pens are autoinjectors of epinephrine used to treat severe allergic reactions).
