Right thing to do if the patient has cardiopulmonary arrest and refuses resuscitation?????

right thing to do if the patient has cardiopulmonary arrest and refuses resuscitation

If a person has given advanced directions not to resusitate, then out of respect for this person & this person's directives, the answer is do not resusitate. This is easy to say, but I can appreciate the feelings of the person or persons who witness a person they love going into arrest. You want to do something. You feel you need to do something. Thing is, allowing someone to leave this earth according to their wishes is sometimes, most times, a gift of love and respect. Going against the wishes of a loved one, trying to keep them near, is most always a selfish need to hang on.

Think about your need to have a say in your life and your celestial passing. Give the same respect to your loved ones as you would want them to give to you, regardless of what you would decide for yourself.

yes I believe only if he gives permission. If he doesn't then what??? let him die? Report It

wouldn't he be unconcious to answer yes or no?

If the patient has previously expressed a desire against resuscitation, their wishes should be followed. This is the ethical principle of patient autonomy. If the patient had never expressed their desires one way or another, the doctor should attempt resuscitation. This involves the ethical principles of beneficience (act in the patient's best interest), and presumed consent (in emergencies, if there is no expressed wish from the patient, do what a rational person would want).
