As a patient, do I have the right to read my medical records, specifically notes and comments the doctor wrote |
At my last appointment, my doctor was out and another was filling in. The nurse handed this other doctor a page of what looked liked notes from my previous appointments. I am not one hundred percent comfortable with my doctor as he had made some comments and recommendations concerning my treatment that I disagree with, and I would like to know what he is writing about me in his notes. Are doctors notes considered part of my medical record, and do I have a right to review my record? Your rights under state law depend on what state you're in, which you don't say. The federal law that applies is called HIPAA, which you can find here: http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/privacy.htm... YES! i believe you have a right to see your chart and all notes pertaining to it, but no one else can see your chart Yes you can look at all of it. When my son was born I requested to look at his charts! And everytime I went to a prenatal visit I would look over my chart as I was waiting for my midwife. |
