Should a pharmacist have the right to deny a patient Emergency Contraception?

Should the pharmacist have his/her license revoked? Should they be diciplined? What action would you take based upon the following article?

search: gloversville pharmacist

the pharmacist made "moralistic judgements against the patient"-

"This isn't a form of birth control" and
"questioned their sexual pratices".

{A refusal due to health related issues had nothing to do with her final decision. }

We are all entitled to our personal opinions and what we do and say to our friends and families outside of work is fine. Even if we want to agree with Hilter's outlook, we have that constitutional right (I DO NOT, but it's still our right as Americans).

However, I think that in the professional world, we should not be allowed to let those opinions interfere with the opinions of others. To me, your example runs along the same lines as me denying a person of color a certain seat in a restaurant if I am the host. Or denying housing to someone because of their looks if I'm a landlord. What's next, pharmacists denying antibiotics to a certain race because they think they are inferior? Our opinions should never get in the way of our social duties to our fellow man. Therefore, I think that all pharmacists should be required to fill any legal prescription, and if they do not, they should lose their license to practice.

absoltely not a pinhead pharmicist should have no authority indetermining that, there idiots anyways

No, a pharmacist should give up their license and take up another profession or be stripped of their license. What's to stop them from denying AIDS patients the drugs they need to live, condoms, or even insulin for those following a poor lifestyle? If you can't do the job, get out of the profession!

Those women should sue RiteAid for employing the idiot after she refused the first one.

They cant deny you if you have a script, or if it is over the counter.

This is part of larger issue. For the pharmacist's that are refusing, it's about autonomy. The ability to act in the best interest of patient despite what the doctor orders. You all might find this hard imagine...but sometimes doctor's are WRONG!!! Their malpractice insurance wouldn't be so high if they weren't getting sued every 5 minutes for a mistake they've made that hurts someone. The issue is does the pharmacist have the right to refuse to fill a prescription that he/she knows will end life? That's a pretty big issue for some folks, and you have to understand where they are coming from, whether you agree with them or not. I personally have no problem dispensing it, because I chose this profession knowing full well what it meant to do my job. But others were doing this before these drugs came onto the market. Let me ask you this, should a physician be force to write a prescription for Plan B if they do not believe that it is moral to do so? Are physicians required to perform abortions?? The answer if of course not, and just as some doctors choose not to because they took an oath that they would do no harm, we take an oath pledging the same. Those that are refusing should be allowed to refuse, but they should be mandated to find a pharmacy that will dispense the prescription at cost to the pharmacy that is refusing to fill it. That would quite simply force employers to stop employing these pharmacist on the basis that it is cost prohibitive to do so. And to the jackleg who had all the lovely things to say about pharmacists, eat ****.
