Do doctors have the right to refuse surgery due to financial status even if patient has already been admited? |
patient was in hospital with acute pancreatitis and obviously needs surgery to remove stone from bile duct, but doctor said no due to her not been able to pay. If it is life or death situation no. But for pancreatitis, yes. I dunno. morally they shouldn't but hey doctors gotta eat too I think it probably depends on what the hospital policy. Most have some sort of policy that relates to charity care and if it's a surgeon on call, they should have to do it and be covered by the hospital's malpractice, that sort of thing...but pretty sure that the policy is going to vary by hospital. depends on the hospital EMTALA says once you are stabilized you can be moved to a charity hospital or referred to a specialist. |
