Can chinese acupunture cure really stroke patient?

My grandma recently had a bleeding in her right brain. Now on medical side, she is doing quite well but the whole left side of her body is severely weak. She had been doing physiotherapy for the past 3 weeks but showing slow recover rate. My family planning to send my grandma for chinese acupunture treatment. I have consulted a few neurologist regarding my grandma case but I have been told that chinese acupunture CANNOT cure stroke patient (according to her that some major studies carried out in China about this acupunture and stroke and proven that acupunture does not cure stroke). I just want to find out more about acupunture in curing stroke patient. I need some advise from neurologist experts or acupunture professionals. Please help. Your advices are very much appreciated. Thank you

1) Any neurologist you consult will tell you it's impossible.
That's what they are trained in medical school to believe.
There were quite a few statements the previous poster said in regards to this which were false, but I don't want to start a flame war over beliefs taught in med school.

2) Accupuncture can help, but for something like recovering from a stroke, you need a really good accupuncturists (and not a run of the mill certified one). If you can find someone who is "good" and a cranial accupuncturist, then they will probably be of help. Otherwise honestly I'm not really sure.
I know one guy in san francisco who fit that profile and helped quite a few stroke victims, but people like him are rare.

3) I've seen a lot of good results from using bio feedback to help stroke victims gain the ability to move back.
Like #2 if you can find a good biofeedback person, that might do the trick.

Edit maggs; Quackwatch is a very bad source to quote. The guy who runs it is an ex psychiatrist that lies, is funded by the AMA, and gives expert opinions on things he hasn't even studied.
The specific piece you cited I wrote a long rebuttal to a while back, so if it's presented, this one needs to be as well

Once the brain cells die off there is no going back. Sometimes the remaining healthy parts of the brain can take over for the dead brain tissue and some function may return. Unfortunately acupuncture will do nothing to alter this.

Please look into the Bradley Method. I am a certified massage therapist, highly educated, and highly skeptical (but open) by nature. I worked at a spa in Auburn, California. We had a woman who had 90% loss of ROM (Range of Movement) come into the spa and receive Bradley Method treatments from the owner of the spa. I witnessed, with my own eyes, a woman who could not dress herself, could no longer drive herself, had great difficulty walking and talking, and had great difficulty keeping her lips closed adequately enough to not drool on herself (So you can imagine how painful an existence this poor woman was leading as the result of her stroke...), regain almost complete range of movement with her stroke-affected arm over about a 2-3 month period of treatments several times per week. I will NEVER forget her, and the healing I saw her go through. She had been told to forget getting any better by her doctors. They told her she would never get any better, ever. They were WRONG! And still are. I have not seen her for about 8 years, because I moved to the East Coast, but last I heard she was driving again, and one had to look very closely, and with a trained eye, to see any results from the stroke in her walking. Never listen to ANYONE who tells you never, especially an American allopathic doctor. I would have a LOT more respect for them if they would simply say, "Try! It can't hurt you to try alternatives, and something you try may actually be able to help you immeasurably!" Those who try to act like gods are in for an immense downfall, and an immense awakening. I have actually had amazing good luck with TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Try it and see how your grandma does. It can't hurt her from my perspective, with anything worse than a slight pinch from an acupuncture needle.

Do not give up hope. A book called
Train your mind and change your brain by Sharon Begley printed in 2007 of research done by a group of scientist in 2004 in the book A man had a stroke on the left side of his brain and was paralyzed down the right side.
They immobilize his good arm, which force him to use first his fingers then his hand and slowly got the use of his right side back.
After 2 years follow up he was still able to comb his hair, shave, clean his teeth and cut up his food and feed himself.
NOW THE INTERESTING PART IS WHEN THEY DID THE BRAIN SCAN, THE MAN HAD GROWN NEW NEURONS (BRAIN CELLS) NOT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BRAIN BUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN. Which shows no matter how old you are, if you learn something new you can grow new neurons

ask the acupuncturist. they will give an honest answer. doctors will generally not give an honest answer as they are trained to believe in medical science only -though there a few who are more open minded. so they will not be reliable to ask if its ok. acupuncturists will be able to help certainly but just ask and im sure they will give you an honest answer about to what extent this is possible in your grandmothers case. It can only be a good thing, dont let the doctor put you off! Whetever happens, her quality of life will be greatly improved!

First learn what acupuncture is and how it is supposed to work. Then you can make your own educated decision. Do you believe in Chi? (science says Chi doesn't exist) If not then there's no point in trying acupuncture. Assuming your inquiring about TCM type acupuncture.
