To be more specific about the cocaine question. please read additional detail!?

I am the farther; my son who is 5.5 months old now seems to lack the ability to produce the chemical needed to tell his body that he is full. I was not with the mother prior, during or after pregnancy but since the paternity tests have come back positive I have tried to play a much more active role in his bringing up in every way. However, his mother does not seem to be coping with my son鈥檚 demands and refusing him as she should and I am greatly concerned. I just need to know for sure what could have caused this condition, as I suspect greatly that cocaine abuse was present prior and during pregnancy.

How can you possibly expect to get the accurate answer here on yahoo? if you have any concerns whatsoever concerning the health of your baby, you should be going & talking to someone in the professional field that can run appropriate tests etc, in order to diagnose any conditions you fear your baby may have.

Anyway, from all the studies yet conducted concerning the use of cocaine during or prior to pregnancy have only been carried out on small rodents. Not enough information/data has been collected with human offspring, although obviously it's a dead cert that taking any drugs/smoking during a pregnancy can only have a detrimental effect.

Studies carried out so far have shown that cocaine exposed children have an increased occurrence of symptoms SIMILAR to those seen with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) increased distractibility, impulsivity and select learning deficits. Nothing shows any signs of children not producing the hormone that controls the portion of the brain that signals a fullness after food consumption.

Over feeding babies has been a concern for many years.

You really need to talk to your G.P & try to be careful about jumping to conclusions, you could do more harm than good.

Babe I know or try to know what you are going through. If she was on cocaine it is possible the childs brain as been damaged or any other part of the body. Look babe just get in touch and I will chat to you. pauline.neild@btinternet.com

I am sorry to hear this and I am sure you already know the answer to your question is yes it was the babies mother taking Cocaine that more than likely caused this defect. If she is still using I strongly suggest you try to get full custody of your child as if she is still using your child is still at risk of developing asthma and other chest problems because of the smoke from the drug, As i do not know the situation I would strongly suggest finding out if she takes any other drugs, because you child may be coming into contact with these which is not safe for a child his age ( or any age for that matter.)

ok you are concerned thats a great start, the next step would be getting him away from the mother if she is or has been on drugs but remeber drug use is a problem so make sure she gets help to. Hope all works out for you keep on the right road my friend, your doing a great job!!!

Im very sorry to hear that!, the poor little thing!The best thing you can do for your son is bring him to a childrens hospital and get him checked out and let the doctors know that his mother took cocaine while she was pregnant and thell them all the sircumstances. They would know best and they will be able to give your baby the proper treatment he needs to get better if he can get better. It probably was the cocaine, so if you are concerned which I know you are try to get full custody of your son because unfortunately for your son it sounds to me that his mother doesnt care about him, and luckly for him he has a caring father to love him and give him what he needs, Good luck what ever you decide!
