Operation for patella dislocation?

I dislocated my patella a year ago, which has since become reccurant.
Originally, it was put in a cast for six weeks.
I've been having physiotherapy for it since September.
However, it is still not back to normal.
I have been told there is a possibility that an operation shall be required.
What operations could be carried out? Thanks

It is called a lateral release where the soft tissue structures on the outside of the knee cap is cut to allow proper tracking of the knee cap and to prevent those structures from pulling the knee cap outward. The surgery is arthroscopic meaning they make small incisions to put a camera and surgeons tools through and do the surgery without a large incision to expose the area. The rehab takes 3-4 months, but usually there is a good outcome if you put a lot of effort into the rehab

My daughter had the same problem. She had whats called a lateral release. Basically the outside muscle was cut to avoid it pulling the kneecap off. It was open surgery then (13 yrs ago), but is probably done now through a scope. She was NWB for afew weeks and then PWB for afew weeks.
It turned out great for her. She hasn't had any problems with that knee at all
